What Rubbish Removal Actually Costs In Melbourne

Why quotes vary so much, what actually drives the price, and how to avoid paying for space you don't use.

Price is driven by four things

Almost every rubbish removal quote comes down to volume, weight, access and disposal cost. Two piles that look the same size can be hundreds of dollars apart if one is bagged clothing and the other is bathroom tiles.

  • Volume — how much truck space the load takes
  • Weight — soil, rubble and tiles are charged by the tonne at the tip
  • Access — a driveway pickup versus a long carry from a rear yard
  • Disposal — mattresses, tyres and e-waste carry specific fees

Why over-the-phone estimates are usually wrong

"About a trailer load" means something different to everyone. Photos remove the guesswork, which is why we price from them — you get a real number rather than a range that changes when the truck arrives.

Where people overspend

Hiring a skip for a job that's half a truck load is the most common one. You pay for the whole bin, you load it yourself, and it sits on your driveway for days. If the load is small or awkward, a removal crew is usually the cheaper option once your own time is counted.
