Mattresses have their own disposal fee
Transfer stations charge per mattress because they're bulky, hard to compact and need to be pulled apart for recycling. That fee is why a single mattress isn't free to remove, even though it's one item.
Recycling
Mattresses can be broken down into steel, foam and timber. Where a recycler is practical for the load we use one — it's better than landfill and often similar in cost.
Getting it collected
